A significant road collapse occurred on Monday in the upscale Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad, raising concerns about infrastructure and safety. A 10,000-liter water tanker, coming from Maheshwari Chambers, was traveling through when the road suddenly caved in.
Witnesses reported that the road gave way under the tanker’s weight, causing the drain line below to collapse. The front of the tanker got stuck, creating panic among nearby residents and commuters. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Local officials quickly arrived, sealing off the area to prevent more accidents. Traffic was redirected, and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) began repairs immediately.
Early investigations indicate that the drain line may have weakened due to poor upkeep and frequent heavy vehicle traffic, leading to the collapse. GHMC has promised a thorough inspection and fast repairs.
Residents expressed frustration, saying their complaints about the poor state of roads and drainage in Banjara Hills have been ignored.
“This could have been disastrous. Authorities need to ensure proper checks before allowing heavy vehicles,” a resident said.
This incident highlights a pattern of infrastructure failures in Hyderabad, urging a review of road conditions, especially in busy and residential areas.
