Hyderabad: The Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) Women’s Forum launched the Safe Stay Audit program on Friday. Around 50 volunteers from different organizations, along with SCSC traffic volunteers and the Anusandhan team, attended the induction session to help with the safety audit. The schedule for the audit will be shared soon.
Srujana Karnam, DCP of Women & Child Safety, Cyberabad, along with Mamatha Madireddy, joint secretary of the Women’s Forum, and other key members like Suma, Ayesha, and Harinder from the Anusandhan team, were present to kick off the event.
According to the SCSC, many professionals, especially in the IT and ITES sectors, have moved to Hyderabad from various parts of India because of better job opportunities. This includes a large number of women who see Hyderabad as a safe place to live and work. Many of these women stay as paying guests (PGs) or in hostels that have grown in number around Cyberabad over the years.
The Project Safe Stay initiative was started to ensure that women staying in PGs or hostels have safe and secure accommodation. The forum is partnering with the SHE Teams from the Cyberabad Police to make this happen.
As part of the initiative, all PGs and hostels are audited based on safety guidelines set by the Cyberabad Police. So far, five audits have been completed, and in 2019, a total of 267 facilities were audited.
The sixth audit is planned to take place in phases between November and January. It will cover facilities located in six areas around the Madhapur zone.
Volunteers from IT and ITES companies will carry out the audit, with help from the SHE Teams to ensure the safety of residents.
