South Central Railway (SCR) celebrated the 78th Independence Day on Thursday in Hyderabad. Arun Kumar Jain, the general manager of SCR, hoisted the national flag and received the Guard of Honour at the Railway Sports Complex Ground in Secunderabad.

During the event, Arun Kumar Jain highlighted the notable achievements of the SCR zone in the current financial year. He mentioned that from April to July 2024, the gross originating revenue of SCR reached Rs 6,894 crore. This marks a 3 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The zone also recorded 46.25 million tonnes of freight loading by July and generated Rs 4,611 crore in freight revenue. Furthermore, the originating passenger traffic from April to July 2024 was 88 million, bringing in Rs 1,956 crore in revenue.

To enhance safety, tenders have been issued for the deployment of Kavach, a safety system, across the zone. This system will be implemented between Wadi, Guntakal, and Renigunta, covering a distance of 523 kilometers.

In response to the increased passenger demand during the holiday and summer seasons, SCR operated 271 special trains and attached 3,866 coaches to popular trains in the current financial year up to July.
