Awareness Seminar on Crimes Against Children Held in Gadwal
On Monday, an awareness seminar on crimes against children was conducted at Hari Hara Junior College in Gadwal. This seminar was organized under the guidance of District SP Mr. T. Srinivas Rao, IPS, and coordinated by SI Vijay Bhaskar. The main focus was to educate girls about important topics such as sexual harassment, the penalties under the POCSO Act, and potential consequences like losing future job opportunities due to criminal records.
The seminar also covered topics like the misuse of smartphones, the importance of education, and helping students understand the difference between good touch and bad touch. DSP Mr. K. Satyanarayana was the chief guest at the event and addressed the students.
During his speech, DSP Satyanarayana emphasized that ensuring a bright and prosperous future for girls is the responsibility of everyone in society. He encouraged the girls to focus on their studies, follow their teachers’ guidance, and work diligently toward their goals. He also stressed that girls should not hesitate to approach the police if they face any form of harassment or abuse.
The DSP further explained the severe consequences of sexual harassment under the new laws. Offenders could face prison time and risk losing job opportunities in both the government and private sectors. Additionally, those with criminal records could face difficulties in marriage proposals due to social stigma.
He urged parents to stay vigilant, monitor their children’s behavior, and maintain open communication. This will help children feel comfortable sharing their problems. He also advised students to use mobile phones responsibly and avoid bad habits that could harm their future.
For girls or women who face harassment, the DSP provided contact information for immediate help. They can reach the police, the SHE Team at 8712670312, or dial 100 for quick action. The police are committed to taking strict measures to ensure that offenders are punished.
The seminar was attended by the college principal, faculty members, and police officials.
