Hanumakonda: On Thursday, Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka announced a new plan to boost women’s economic power in the State. She spoke at the Indira Mahila Shakti event at Girijan Bhavan in Mulugu. Alongside her were Bhadrachalam MLA Tellam Venkata Rao, Additional CEO SERP P Katyayani Devi, Collector Divakar TS, Market Committee Chairperson Rega Kalyani, and Grandhalaya Samstha Chairperson Banoth Ravi Chander. They handed out cheques for interest-free loans, loan insurance, and accident claims.
Seethakka highlighted the government’s commitment to fulfilling Indiramma’s vision through welfare schemes. The event celebrated positive impacts on women’s lives. She noted that about Rs 26,000 crore in loans have been distributed to women’s groups, with interest waived.
The minister encouraged women to explore opportunities beyond government jobs, emphasizing potential in private and business sectors. She urged them to take advantage of the government’s welfare programs.
In Mulugu, there are 9 mandal federations, 330 village organizations, and 6,904 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with 69,736 members. In the 2024–25 financial year, Rs 249.07 crore in loans were given through bank linkages, and Rs 54.79 crore was given to 618 SHGs for 2025–26. Interest-free loans totaling Rs 884.53 crore were provided to 5,109 SHGs. During the celebrations, Rs 10.74 crore in interest-free loans were distributed to 52,615 members of 5,212 SHGs.
The MLA remarked that the Indira Mahila Shakti program aims to make women financially prosperous. He acknowledged the revival of interest-free loans neglected by past administrations.
The collector praised the successful implementation of women’s economic development schemes in the district. Under the Indiramma Housing Scheme, women lacking investment capacity for sanctioned houses receive advance loans of Rs 1 lakh.
