Hyderabad: In a significant infrastructure push, the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) has proposed a network of seven new roads to improve connectivity between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the upcoming Musi riverfront corridor.
The proposal focuses on fast-developing western and south-western zones of the city, including Budvel, Kismatpur, Gandipet, and Kothwalguda, where traffic congestion has been increasing due to rapid urban growth and limited road connectivity.
Proposed Road Network
As per the plan, the following road stretches have been identified to strengthen connectivity:
- Osmansagar – Narsingi: 5.4 km (30-metre right of way)
- Osmansagar – ORR Service Road: 2.3 km (30m)
- Kismatpur Bridge – HMDA Budvel Layout: 1.1 km (30m)
- Budvel Layout – Shivam Road: 3.5 km (30m)
- NIRD – Shamshabad Airport Road stretch: 5 km (36m)
- Kismatpur Bridge – Budvel Layout (link road): 3 km (36m)
- Isthana Villas – Gandipet Road: 1.2 km (18m)
Focus on Decongestion and Connectivity
Officials indicate that the objective is to create multiple entry and exit points to the ORR, reducing pressure on existing arterial roads and junctions. The new links are expected to improve travel between suburban growth zones and key city corridors.
The plan also aims to provide better access to the airport corridor and reduce travel time for commuters moving between Gachibowli, Financial District, and southern Hyderabad.
Linked to Musi Riverfront Development
The road expansion is part of the broader Musi Riverfront Development initiative, which focuses on improving urban infrastructure along the river while enhancing mobility, public spaces, and planned development.
Urban planners note that improved road connectivity will be crucial to support future residential and commercial expansion in these zones.
Growing Pressure on Western Corridors
Areas such as Gandipet, Budvel, and Kismatpur have witnessed increased real estate activity in recent years. However, limited road networks have led to congestion during peak hours.
The proposed road grid is expected to:
- Distribute traffic more evenly
- Reduce bottlenecks at key junctions
- Improve access to ORR exits
- Support long-term urban expansion
The proposal is currently at a planning stage, and further details on land acquisition, funding, and execution timelines are expected to be finalised after detailed project assessments.
Once implemented, the project is expected to significantly improve connectivity across western Hyderabad and support the city’s expanding infrastructure needs.
