Hyderabad: The city’s dedicated women’s safety unit, SHE Teams, recently caught 49 individuals involved in harassing women in public areas. The arrests were made across various parts of Hyderabad, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security for women and children.
Out of the 49 offenders, 30 were counseled in front of their family members and warned not to repeat their actions. Two men faced legal consequences — they were produced before a Magistrate, sentenced to two days in jail, and fined for their behavior.
In more serious cases, SHE Teams registered three cases under the POCSO Act at the Chatrinaka, Jubilee Hills, and Madannapet Police Stations. These cases involved men who targeted minor girls. The accused tricked the victims with fake promises of love and marriage, then engaged in sexual relationships and later blackmailed the girls for money or further sexual favors.
The police filed First Information Reports (FIRs) under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and investigations are currently underway.
In another disturbing case, SHE Teams helped a woman who was being blackmailed by a man she had met on Facebook. The man, a private employee, took her to an OYO hotel, secretly recorded intimate videos without her consent, and later demanded ₹1,00,000 in cash, threatening to leak the footage.
SHE Teams swiftly acted on the complaint, arrested the accused at his home, and registered a case. The man was sentenced to three days of simple imprisonment for his actions.
Officials from SHE Teams emphasized the importance of speaking up. They urged citizens not to stay silent when they witness harassment or inappropriate behavior in public.
Anyone facing such issues or seeing someone in distress can contact SHE Teams by dialing 100 or sending a message via WhatsApp to 9490616555. The team remains committed to making Hyderabad safer for all women and children.
