Bandari Lakshma Reddy, a politician from Hyderabad, surprised many when he was chosen as the MLA candidate for Uppal constituency during the 2023 Assembly polls. This decision by the BRS leadership was unexpected, as the sitting MLA was replaced with him. Despite this, Lakshma Reddy proved himself by securing over 1.32 lakh votes and winning with a voter percentage of 48.33. He defeated his nearest rival from the Congress party by over 49,000 votes.
Lakshma Reddy’s victory can also be attributed to his philanthropic work through the BLR Trust, where he has initiated projects to address various societal needs. Raised in Mallapur village, he started his career as a Civil contractor after completing his education. His mother, Bandari Lakshmamma, who served as a ward member in Uppal Gram Panchayat, inspired him to enter politics. Initially associated with the Congress party, Lakshma Reddy later joined the BRS after the formation of Telangana.
Before joining the BRS, he held positions in the AP Congress Committee and the TPCC. In 2014, he contested for the first time on a Congress ticket from Uppal Assembly constituency. His family has a long history of supporting the Congress party, influencing his early political affiliations. Despite facing criticism and doubts, Lakshma Reddy’s victory in the Assembly polls showcased his leadership and dedication to serving the community.
