The State government of Hyderabad is fighting against the government of Andhra Pradesh regarding the Polavaram project. The State government is upset about the farm lands being submerged by the Polavaram backwaters and wants the Central Water Commission (CWC) to take action. They are also questioning why the Centre did not enforce previous safety decisions on the AP government.

In a letter to the CWC, the State Engineer-In-Chief C Muralidhar explained that both the AP and Telangana governments agreed to a joint survey to address Telangana’s concerns. However, no necessary measures have been taken by the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) or the AP government, contrary to what was agreed upon.

The CWC, PPA, and AP government had agreed to start a joint survey, beginning with an inspection of the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) stones. The data provided by AP shows that 954 acres of land will be submerged, and this information has been shared with the PPA and AP government. However, Andhra Pradesh has not cooperated with the joint survey. The Engineer-In-Chief also mentioned that the backwater effect caused by drainage congestions and stagnation in Bhadrachalam and other local streams needs to be addressed by the PPA and Union Ministry of Jal Shakti in compliance with NGT orders.
