Hyderabad: The Telangana government has issued strict orders directing all government departments, corporations, societies, and universities to vacate privately leased buildings and shift to government-owned premises by December 31, 2025.
From January 1, 2026, no government office in the state will be allowed to function from a private building under any circumstances. The decision is part of a major cost-cutting and administrative rationalization initiative.
The orders were issued through a circular by the Finance (WP) Department and marked as “Top Priority” by Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao.
The circular clearly mandates that all government offices currently operating from private buildings must relocate immediately. No exceptions will be made for any department, corporation, society, or university.
The government has emphasized that sufficient office space is available in government-owned buildings, particularly after the state’s bifurcation. All Special Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Special Secretaries, and Heads of Departments (HoDs) have been directed to identify suitable government premises and complete the relocation process before the deadline.
The January 1, 2026 deadline has been set as non-negotiable. Any government office found operating from a private building after this date will be considered in violation of official orders.
To ensure strict compliance, the Director of Treasuries, Director of Works Accounts, and Pay and Accounts Officer have been instructed not to release any rental payments for private buildings from February 1, 2026.
The ban on rent payments applies to all sources of funding, including government budgets, grants-in-aid, departmental funds, and Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS).
The circular places personal accountability on administrative heads for any violations. Continuation of rental payments or delays in shifting will attract strict action against the officials concerned.
Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao has directed all departments to treat this matter as a top priority, underlining the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and efficient use of public resources.
