Telangana has begun distributing 5.61 lakh new ration cards to improve food access for families in need. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy kicked off the distribution at a public event in Tungaturthi, Suryapet district, on July 14, 2025. The aim is to broaden the Public Distribution System (PDS) and provide food security to more low-income households.
Recently, 26 lakh families became eligible to apply for these ration cards. This initiative has increased the number of families with ration cards in Telangana from 2.8 crore to 3.1 crore. These cards allow families to purchase subsidized essentials like rice and grains at fair price shops throughout the state.
The government promises a fair and transparent distribution process, ensuring all deserving families benefit. New cardholders will receive better-quality rice and reliable support as part of the enhanced food security program. Efforts are also underway to improve the delivery system and minimize waste.
