The Telangana government is considering alternative plans for the construction of Osmania General Hospital in case the Court rules against demolishing the current dilapidated building. The issue has been contentious, with doctors facing problems due to the deteriorating state of the heritage building. The government filed an affidavit supporting demolition in September 2023 to make way for a new hospital with more capacity.

Despite government plans, some heritage conservationists have opposed the demolition, advocating for renovation instead of tearing down the historic building. The current bed capacity at Osmania is 1100, but the government aims to increase it to over 1,800 to better serve patients and address concerns raised by medical professionals.

Government officials are preparing for alternative measures in case the Court prohibits demolition of the building. They are currently identifying potential new locations for the hospital in Hyderabad. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has stated that the government will abide by the Court’s decision regarding the heritage building before proceeding with any construction plans.
