Telangana Government Likely to Hold Special Assembly Session

The Telangana government is planning to hold a special session of the Legislative Assembly on February 7. The session will likely focus on discussing the findings of the Comprehensive Household Survey, which is popularly known as the “Caste Survey.” The survey report is expected to be submitted to the state government on February 2 and presented to the Cabinet on February 5 for approval. However, there is no official confirmation yet about the special session, as government officials and the Assembly Secretariat remain silent on the matter.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president, Mahesh Kumar Goud, revealed that the caste survey report would be submitted to the Cabinet on February 5. Speaking informally at Gandhi Bhavan, he mentioned that the Cabinet would discuss increasing reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) before the upcoming local body elections. Mr. Goud also accused opposition parties of trying to disrupt the caste survey process.

He further stated that local body elections would only be held after the issue of BC reservations is resolved. The Congress, he said, is fully prepared for the elections and is working on strengthening its presence in the Greater Hyderabad region, where it faced setbacks in the last Assembly elections.

Defense of Revanth Reddy’s Review Meetings

Commenting on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s decision to hold review meetings outside the Secretariat, Mr. Goud defended the move by citing logistical reasons. He contrasted the Congress government’s approach with that of the previous BRS regime, highlighting that the current administration ensures regular reviews with officials at the Secretariat while also engaging directly with the public.

Criticism of BJP’s Role in Hyderabad’s Development

Responding to protests by BJP corporators, Mr. Goud criticized Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay for their lack of contributions to Hyderabad’s development. He accused the BJP leaders of failing to secure central funds for the city and reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to solving Hyderabad’s issues.

In addition, Mr. Goud announced that the Congress would soon reveal its candidates for the upcoming MLC elections. With key political decisions on BC reservations and local body elections approaching, the possible special Assembly session is expected to be a significant political event in Telangana.
