Hyderabad: Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are gearing up for a second meeting to tackle unresolved issues from the AP Reorganization Act of 2014. This upcoming meeting aims to address the long-standing division of assets and institutions between the two states.
Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao is organizing the meeting, following a Cabinet decision to accelerate the resolution process. The first meeting took place in Amaravati last December, but no agreement was reached on asset division.
Officials note the Chief Secretary’s significant efforts in addressing these disputes. Plans are underway to hold this next meeting in Hyderabad. Recently, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and other ministers assessed the unresolved issues during a Cabinet session, tasking the Chief Secretary with arranging discussions with Andhra Pradesh.
The states are disputing the division of assets from 23 corporations, such as the state finance corporation and power firms. Issues also include unsettled electricity dues, employee transfers, and professional tax revenue sharing, which have lingered for over a decade. A notable problem is the Rs 8,000 crore unallocated in bank accounts under Schedules 9 and 10.
Power dues are a major point of contention. Andhra Pradesh claims Rs 3,441 crore is owed for electricity supplied to Telangana, while Telangana argues that Andhra Pradesh owes it Rs 17,828 crore. After settling mutual dues, Telangana insists Andhra Pradesh still needs to pay Rs 12,940 crore. These financial disagreements will be central at the next meeting.
