Hyderabad – The Telangana Congress has sharply criticized the BRS and BJP, accusing them of exploiting the recent Gulzar Houz fire tragedy for political gain. The party said instead of offering support to the victims’ families, opposition leaders were using the tragedy to score political points.

Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Syed Nizamuddin, spokesperson for the Pradesh Congress Committee, urged all parties to stop the blame game. He called for a united effort to improve fire safety across the state, saying it’s time to focus on saving lives rather than arguing over politics.

The deadly fire on May 19 claimed 17 lives in a commercial building at Gulzar Houz. “This isn’t just a disaster; it’s a warning,” Nizamuddin said. He praised the quick response from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress government, who announced ₹5 lakh compensation for each victim’s family and promised full support.

In contrast, he criticized the BRS and BJP for what he called “shameless politics.” He accused them of using the tragedy for media attention instead of helping the city recover. “Their actions are not only insensitive but also deeply irresponsible,” he said.

Nizamuddin emphasized the Congress government’s commitment to real change. He said the Chief Minister has already ordered a full investigation into the fire. A six-member expert committee has been formed to find the root cause and give long-term safety recommendations.

“This is not about pointing fingers,” Nizamuddin said. “This is about fixing a broken system. Fire safety isn’t optional—it’s essential.”

He also proposed a statewide awareness campaign. He wants fire safety drills and education programs in homes, schools, apartments, and business centers. His suggestions included regular electrical inspections, restricted use of heavy electrical equipment during peak hours, smoke alarms, and proper ventilation systems.

The Congress Party is urging the public and political leaders to focus on protecting lives. Their goal is to prevent future tragedies by making safety a shared responsibility.
