Hyderabad residents in Nizam Colony, Tolichowki, face severe flooding whenever it rains heavily. Recently, water levels rose to 3 feet, creating a distressing situation. Locals are demanding a permanent solution to this recurring problem.

Every monsoon, people in Tolichowki suffer significant losses due to flooding. Areas like Tolichowki crossroads near Rumaan Hotel, Nizam Colony, Al Hasnath, Janaki Nagar, and Meraj Colony experience submerged roads during heavy rain.

Mohammed Asfan, from Nizam Colony, shared that despite completed works in various colonies, flooding occurs with just half an hour of rain, reaching nearly 4 feet. Residents fear each rainfall due to severe waterlogging.

Residents are frustrated as significant investments in projects have not resolved the issue. The GHMC spent crores on civic works, yet colonies in Tolichowki continue to flood.

Efforts like upgrading pipelines, diverting lakes, and extending drainage systems have not solved the problem. Projects worth Rs 5 crore for box drains from Hotel Rumaan to Bal Reddy Nagar, and a 900 mm sewer line from Kaaba Hospital to Hotel Rumaan, are complete, but flooding issues remain. Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin and officials visited affected areas.

Mohammed Asif Hussain Sohail, a social activist, highlighted ongoing projects under the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP). The Rs 290 crore project, started in 2022, includes a 27-km trunk line with a 15-foot depth, but delays mean these areas still suffer during rains.
