Hyderabad: Telangana’s Agriculture Minister, Tummala Nageswara Rao, appealed to the Union Chemical and Fertilizers Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda, to increase the state’s urea supply from local sources. He requested an extra supply plan to cover shortages from April to June 2025. He pointed out that the gap between the approved allocation and the actual supply is causing issues during the crucial Kharif season.
In his letter, the Minister noted that the Department of Fertilizers allocated 1.60 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) for July 2025, with 60% coming from imports. However, there is still a shortfall in the imported urea category, as no vessels have been assigned for the July quota yet.
This mismatch and irregular supply cause delays in getting enough urea to the fields. The State Government has emphasized the urgency of the situation. They urged the Department of Fertilizers to ensure the full allocation of 0.97 LMT of imported urea for July 2025 is delivered promptly. They also requested an increase in urea supply from local units, especially RFCL, from 30,800 MT to 60,000 MT, due to better logistics and easier distribution within the state. Additionally, they asked for an extra supply plan to make up for the shortages from April to June 2025.
