Hanumakonda: Tensions are rising in the matter of disciplinary actions involving Congress MLAs from Warangal district.
On June 27, Konda Muralidhar Rao, husband of Minister Konda Surekha, criticized five MLAs from his party, stirring political unrest. He accused Parakala MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy of seeking his help before elections. He also alleged Kadiyam Srihari was involved in political schemes and lacked leadership. Accusations extended to Gandha Satyanarayana Rao, Nayini Rajender Reddy, and KR Nagaraju for opposing him. Rao claimed they conspired against him with Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s backing, which fueled opposition strategies in the district.
In response, MLC Basavaraj Saraiah, MLAs Nayini, Gandha Satyanarayana, Kadiyam, Revuri, Nagaraju, Inagala Venkatarama Reddy, and Errabelli Swarna met at MLA Nayini’s home, publicly countering the Konda couple’s claims.
On June 29 and 30, complaints were filed with PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and Meenakshi Natarajan, Congress Telangana in-charge. The complaints charged the Konda couple with harming the party and promoting factionalism. They also accused the couple of using a former criminal to influence police activities negatively, demanding action by July 5.
Natarajan took swift action, prompting the PCC disciplinary committee to issue notices to the Konda couple. Konda Murali later met disciplinary chairman Mallu Ravi, arguing the MLAs plotted against him to undermine his status as a key BC leader.
The MLAs insisted Murali’s explanations were insufficient, leading to another notice demanding clarity. Meanwhile, Murali’s daughter, Sushmita Patel, announced plans to run from Parakala, catching the party’s attention.
On Thursday, the Konda couple met Natarajan, claiming provocation by Warangal representatives, asserting their loyalty. Murali told the media he faced political pressure in Warangal for 44 years and remained unshaken.
The committee aimed to report findings by July 5, but delays occurred due to party events. On Saturday, both the couple and the MLAs were asked to meet on Monday.
Nayini Rajender Reddy was tasked with mediating a compromise among factions as local elections neared. The party leadership is reportedly seeking a temporary truce to unify MLAs and strengthen their position against the opposition, aiming for electoral success.
