A low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has changed the weather in the Telugu states, bringing unexpected rain, thunder, and lightning. Over the last three days, many districts in Telangana have faced severe weather. The entire region has cooled due to the trough extending from South Karnataka to Maharashtra.
The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has warned of heavy rain in Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts, issuing a ‘yellow alert’ for Friday. Hyderabad is also expected to have occasional showers and cloudy skies.
In the past day, Ashwaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem district recorded 4.36 cm of rain, the highest in the area, while Gudur in Mahabubabad saw 1.38 cm. Other districts like Siddipet, Vikarabad, Warangal, Yadadri, and Bhupalpally also had moderate rainfall.
The unexpected weather has harmed farmers, with crops like maize, gram, and sorghum, ready for harvest, knocked down. Rain has also damaged dried turmeric, leading to significant losses for farmers.
Meteorological officials mentioned that the current cool weather might last a bit longer, but the rain is expected to stop by Saturday, bringing back normal conditions. However, a heatwave is likely to follow. Currently, temperatures hover around 33°C during the day and 21°C at night. Once the low-pressure area clears, temperatures are expected to rise quickly, with intense heat starting from March 1.
The Meteorological Centre suggested that people, especially the elderly and children, should avoid going outside during the hottest times of the day. Authorities advised everyone to stay cautious as the rain ends and the hot weather begins.
