Hyderabad is facing a crisis in its cricket administration. The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has raised concerns about the dysfunctional state of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to recognize a new leadership team.
The HCA’s governing body, the Apex Council, is in disarray. Out of nine members, key figures are either in legal trouble or unable to fulfill their roles. The President and Treasurer have been arrested, the Secretary is missing, and representatives from both the men’s and women’s players’ panels are suspended due to conflicts of interest. The Vice President and Joint Secretary also face legal challenges, with cases pending in the Supreme Court. The representative from CAG/AG is inactive, and the Councillor cannot operate due to a lack of quorum.
Dharam Guruva Reddy, TCA’s General Secretary, stated that the current situation prevents the HCA from holding legitimate meetings or making decisions. Without a proper quorum, any decisions made are invalid. Additionally, several clubs associated with HCA, such as Sagar Cricket Club, Safilguda Cricket Club, and Acrylic Cricket Club, are embroiled in their own internal conflicts, worsening the situation.
Guruva Reddy has called upon the BCCI, the Supreme Court, and relevant authorities to step in and resolve the issues. The administrative failure of the HCA is not only stalling cricket development in Hyderabad but is also negatively impacting the careers of emerging players, coaches, and staff.
