Hyderabad: State Irrigation, Food & Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy criticized the BRS leaders on Saturday for spreading false information about the condition of the old irrigation projects Jurala and Manjeera.
He blamed the current problems on BRS’s decade-long neglect, not the Congress government. He highlighted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took steps to protect Jurala dam by approving ₹100 crore for a new bridge. This decision aimed to reduce heavy traffic on the dam and prevent damage to its structure.
“Revanth Reddy ensured Jurala’s protection by approving the funds today,” stated Uttam Kumar Reddy.
He dismissed concerns about the ropes and stroke gates at Jurala, emphasizing that experts confirmed the dam’s operations were safe.
“BRS leaders are misleading farmers with propaganda instead of admitting their failures,” he accused.
He assured that the Congress government is committed to maintaining old projects and building new ones for Telangana‘s irrigation needs.
“We are restoring neglected projects like Jurala, Manjeera, Nagarjuna Sagar, SRSP, Kalwakurthy, Koilsagar, Bhima. We aim to revitalize the entire undivided Mahabubnagar district,” he declared.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with Minister Vakiti Srihari, Planning Board Vice-Chairman Dr. G Chinna Reddy, and others, inspected Jurala. He noted that under BRS rule, there was no maintenance for ten years. Essential tasks like desiltation and vegetation removal were ignored.
“Jurala’s capacity has decreased by 20–25% due to silt build-up,” he revealed.
