In Hyderabad, political tensions are rising between the government and opposition. State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has organized a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday to discuss the Godavari Banakacharla project. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will be the chief guest.
Although Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that he invited Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay along with BJP MPs, sources suggest they may not attend. The three Rajya Sabha MPs from BRS are also expected to be absent.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy mentioned that the state government has a plan to pressure the union government to stop the Banakacharla project. The meeting aims to gather input from different parties to strengthen their stance against Andhra Pradesh.
He noted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had previously objected to the project during a meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi in June. The Union Minister assured that his ministry has not received the DPR for the project yet and promised a review based on water allocation guidelines, tribunal judgments, inter-state agreements, and the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act. He also highlighted the demand for the Central Water Commission to delay project approvals.
