Hyderabad: The All India Dental Students and Surgeons Association (AIDSA), along with its International External Affairs Committee, has requested External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to help evacuate Indian students stuck in Iran and Israel due to the rising conflict.
AIDSA expressed deep concern over the safety of these students, who are in danger because of ongoing violence and airstrikes. They highlighted serious risks, especially in Iran, and mentioned the increasing mental stress affecting both students and their families.
More than 1,595 Indian students, many from Jammu & Kashmir, are enrolled in various Iranian universities, particularly in medical and dental fields. Recent Israeli airstrikes, including one that reportedly hit a student hostel in Tehran, have caused minor injuries and widespread fear. With flight services halted, Tehran’s airspace closed, and internet disruptions, students are isolated and traumatized.
Although the Indian Embassy in Tehran has shared advisories and contact details, many families claim their calls for help go unanswered. Indian political leaders and state governments have voiced concerns, urging for immediate evacuation plans.
In Tel Aviv, the Indian Embassy has advised students to remain indoors and follow safety measures. While Indian students are also in Israel, the urgent need for evacuation is more pressing in Iran. AIDSA president Dr. Manzoor Ahmed hopes urgent actions will be taken to ensure the protection and safe return of Indian students.
