Hyderabad: The Telangana Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) questioned why vehicles carrying cows are entering the city despite having check-posts at the outskirts. They announced a protest called ‘Chalo Old City Operation Gau Mata’ set for June 2.
VHP leaders, including State publicity chief P Balaswami, asked supporters to meet at the VHP State office in Koti before 9 am to head to the Old City. They claim that even though cow slaughter is banned and there are many check-posts, cows are still being illegally brought into the city. They want the police to take action against those smuggling cows and ensure that any seized cows go to registered goshalas.
The leaders stated that their cow protection actions follow the law. They accused cow smugglers of openly breaking rules and using costly vehicles to transport calves. They criticized senior police for threatening VHP activists and urged them to target illegal cow transporters. Some activists mentioned facing harsh treatment from the police when they reported smuggling cases.
With Bakrid nearing, VHP is worried about reports of thousands of cows being held in the Old City. They are calling on the Hindu community and cow supporters to join the protest. They also demand that GHMC reveal the number of cows seized and their current whereabouts.
