Hyderabad: A key meeting of Vice-Chancellors from Telangana’s conventional universities was held on Friday at the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) office. The meeting was led by Prof V Balakista Reddy, Chairman of TGCHE. It focused on improving both academic programs and administrative processes in higher education across the state.
Vice-Chancellors from Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Telangana University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University, Satavahana University, and Chakali Illamma Women’s University attended the meeting. TGCHE Vice Chairmen and the Secretary were also present.
One of the major decisions made was to update the undergraduate (UG) syllabus. The new plan includes a 20% revision of the syllabus to add modern subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Fintech, and Research Aptitude. These changes will begin with the academic year 2025–26.
The meeting also introduced reforms focused on students and teaching methods. New “Structured Learning Units” will be added to courses, and faculty members will receive training through online development programs. TGCHE will sign an agreement with T-SAT to help share educational content more widely.
A new system for evaluating students was approved as well. Known as the Continuous Assessment Pattern (CAP), it will total 100 marks. Students will be assessed through Project Work or Assignments (25 marks), a Midterm Exam (25 marks), and an End Semester Exam (50 marks). This system aims to provide ongoing evaluation rather than relying only on final exams.
To improve coordination among universities, a Common Academic Calendar will be introduced. All universities agreed to this calendar, which sets the deadline for UG final exams by April 30 each year. This schedule will help ensure that Common Entrance Tests (CETs) can be held smoothly in May.
The meeting also focused on improving the college affiliation process. Strict deadlines have been set for affiliating Law, Professional, and Degree colleges. Universities must now carefully check student intake numbers before approving affiliations to avoid mismatches between approved and actual admissions.
Prof Reddy shared that guidelines for converting UG courses were discussed, and changes will be considered for the 2025–26 academic year. He also announced that Osmania University will conduct the CPGET 2025 exam for all postgraduate (PG) courses.
Regarding UG admissions, he said that the DOST admission notification will be issued after the Intermediate exam results are declared. All universities must upload correct college and course details to the DOST portal by April 30, 2025.
Lastly, the Vice-Chancellors agreed to eliminate the current “Bucket System” used for UG courses. They also requested TGCHE to create guidelines for better monitoring of Autonomous Colleges.
