Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged all universities in the state to focus more on students and their needs. He told university Vice-Chancellors to remove courses that are not useful and instead start advanced courses that can help students get good jobs in the current job market.
At a meeting with Vice-Chancellors on Friday, the Chief Minister said that students from wealthier families are joining private universities because they offer popular and in-demand courses. He wants government universities to provide the same quality education so that students from poorer families can also succeed and compete with students from private colleges.
Revanth Reddy also said that professors teaching less important courses should be given administrative tasks. He made it clear that universities should not become places where professors are just given roles for the sake of it.
The Vice-Chancellors shared their concerns about lack of staff, buildings, and other basic facilities. In response, the Chief Minister said the government is ready to provide the needed funds to improve universities. He asked all the Vice-Chancellors to meet with State Government Advisor K Keshava Rao, discuss the common problems, and prepare a report to submit to the government with suggestions for improvement.
