In many villages, alcohol is easily available because of numerous small shops. It is rare to find a village without alcohol being sold. However, there is one village where alcohol has been banned for 40 years.
This village has followed the rules set by its elders and maintained a strict ban on alcohol.
The village, named Katrev, is located in the Yadadri Bhongiri district, Choutuppal mandal. It used to be part of the Areygudem Gram Panchayat until it became its own Gram Panchayat five years ago. Katrev has a population of over 700 people, mainly farmers who work in agriculture all day. Even the young people, despite outside influences, do not drink alcohol when they visit the village. Katrev village not only prohibits alcohol but also sets an example in various areas of development.
The villagers have made smart use of government funds. With the help of CSR funds from a nearby industry called Divis, they have constructed concrete roads and installed LED lights on every street. They have also provided clean water filters for every house. Furthermore, alcohol has not been sold in the neighboring village of Areygudem for 20 years.
