Hyderabad: The Indiramma Housing Scheme in Telangana has approved the construction of three lakh houses, announced Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Currently, 1.23 lakh of these homes are at various building stages. The government aims to build a total of 4.5 lakh houses, distributing 3,500 houses per constituency, with a budget of Rs 22,500 crore.
The Congress Government is striving to provide permanent homes for the poor in the state. This effort is part of a larger mission to replace huts with solid housing, making Telangana a leader in housing for the underprivileged. Minister Srinivas Reddy emphasized that the scheme is unique, as Telangana is constructing homes at Rs 5 lakh each without relying on central housing funds.
Minister Reddy further explained that under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the government is turning the housing dreams of the poor into reality. He noted that previous governmental neglect left many without hope of owning a home, but now that hope is materializing.
To aid construction, the government provides 40 metric tonnes of free sand for each house. Additionally, to ensure transparency and prevent delays, construction payments are directly deposited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts every Monday.
Minister Srinivas Reddy called on officials to enhance efforts in districts that are falling behind. He urged them to accelerate urban housing plans, with significant progress already seen in rural areas. Officials were instructed to pinpoint available land in towns and cities and develop immediate action plans.
