Hyderabad – The price of liquor in Telangana has gone up. After a recent hike in beer prices, the state government has now raised the cost of whisky, brandy, vodka, ready-to-drink alcohol, and even budget liquor.

This move aims to bring in more money for the 2025–2026 financial year. The Prohibition and Excise Department proposed the increase, and the government approved it on Sunday.

As per the new rates, the price of a 180 ml bottle of liquor has gone up by at least ₹10, and a 750 ml bottle now costs ₹40 more. All licensed liquor stores have received official instructions to apply the new prices right away.

With this change, the state expects to earn an extra ₹200 crore each month. Over the year, the government hopes to collect ₹27,600 crore from liquor sales. That’s a jump from the ₹25,617 crore estimated for the current financial year.

Officials say the extra ₹2,000 crore in revenue will mostly come from the price hikes and annual fees paid by liquor shops. They also believe that customers who buy premium liquor won’t mind paying more, so sales are unlikely to drop.

Currently, premium brands make up about 30% of the state’s liquor revenue. Raising their prices will boost income without hurting demand, officials said.

Earlier this year, the state also increased beer prices, which led to strong sales during the hot summer months. That strategy worked well, and the new hike on spirits is expected to bring in similar results.
