Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy said that the rights people enjoy in today’s democracy are due to the intelligence, vision, and sacrifices of Dr BR Ambedkar. He stressed that Ambedkar’s efforts led to the creation of the Indian Constitution, which gives equal rights to every citizen.
Speaking at the BJP Telangana’s celebration of Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanthi on Monday, Reddy criticized the Congress party. He said the Congress once dismissed the Constitution written by Ambedkar during the time of Emergency, removing people’s freedoms. He added that many supporters of democracy, journalists, and political leaders were jailed during that period. He recalled that the people later voted against Congress in favor of the Janata Party to restore democratic values.
Reddy said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ambedkar’s dreams are beginning to come true. He urged everyone to work hard and stay committed to social justice, noting that Ambedkar gave India a strong Constitution and equal rights for all.
He also said the BJP is committed to spreading Ambedkar’s values at the grassroots level. Reflecting on the 75-year history of the Constitution, Reddy accused the Congress party, especially the Nehru family, of trying to weaken it. He said the Congress had a history of disrespecting Ambedkar.
Reddy pointed out that when Ambedkar died, his body was taken from Delhi to Mumbai without the proper honors given to national leaders. He said this showed how Congress had ignored and disrespected Ambedkar.
He also said Congress tried to damage Ambedkar’s image by not placing his portrait in Parliament. According to Reddy, the Congress party opposed reservation policies and even Prime Minister Nehru once wrote letters to state leaders against their implementation.
In contrast, he said the BJP government under Modi has been working for the past 11 years to fulfill Ambedkar’s vision, focusing on equality and justice for all.
