Krishna Water Dispute Should Be Resolved Quickly: Farmers’ Association

Khammam: The Telangana Farmers’ Association has urged for a quick resolution to the Krishna water-sharing dispute. District secretary Bonthu Rambabu spoke about this issue at a district committee meeting on Sunday, which was chaired by district president Madineni Ramesh.

Rambabu warned that if Telangana and Andhra Pradesh do not settle their disagreements over water allocations from the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs, the central government might step in. He believes such intervention could harm the interests of both states.

He also called for changes in water supply rules in Khammam district. Currently, there are weekly restrictions on water from Nagarjunasagar. He suggested a new system where water is supplied for two weeks and withheld for one week, to better meet the needs of farmers.

Farmers in Khammam are struggling due to a drop in water levels in ponds and wells. Rambabu urged the government to ensure that these water sources are refilled using Nagarjunasagar water. Additionally, he advised farmers to take all precautions to avoid wasting water.

Another major concern raised was the delayed payment of the Rythu Bharosa scheme funds. The government had announced that farmers with up to three acres would receive financial support, but many have not yet received the money. Instead, officials are making them visit banks repeatedly, causing inconvenience.

Several Telangana Farmers’ Association district leaders, including Vasireddy Prasad, SK Meera, Duggi Krishna, Bikkasani Gangadhar, Seelam Satyanarayana Reddy, Mallempati Rama Rao, Banala Srinivasa Rao, and Kusupudi Madhu, attended the meeting.
