Hyderabad: Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin has shared his disappointment over the removal of his name from the North Stand at Uppal Stadium.
Speaking at a press conference held at his home in Banjara Hills on Sunday, Azharuddin responded to the decision made by Ombudsman Justice Easwariah. The order instructed that Azharuddin’s name be taken down from the stand. He said that he had proudly served the Indian cricket team for 19 years, including 10 years as captain, and the stand was named in his honor because of that contribution.
Azharuddin believes the issue has been politicized. He mentioned that some people filed a petition against him, even involving the Lord’s Cricket Club, though courts had previously dismissed several allegations made against him.
He added that he is proud to be from Hyderabad and that many people in the country respect and admire him. He said he will take legal action and trusts the Indian legal system. Azharuddin stated that he plans to approach higher courts to challenge the decision.
He also mentioned that thousands of his fans and supporters have called him to express their support and to protest the removal of his name from the stadium stand.
