Hyderabad: People living in and around Banjara Hills, Road No. 12, are unhappy with the weekly vegetable market held on Saturdays. They say the market is causing traffic problems and making it hard for people to move around. Many have asked the authorities to move the market to another place.
The market has been operating on this road for several years. The area is also home to important religious places like the Hare Krishna Golden Temple and a church. Every Saturday, the road becomes crowded, making it difficult for devotees and other commuters to pass through. The situation gets worse when it rains, as the narrow road becomes even harder to navigate.
Regular commuters are requesting officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Traffic Police, and Law and Order Police to take quick action. They suggest moving the market and deploying a traffic officer to help manage the flow of vehicles.
Devotees visiting the Hare Krishna Golden Temple are especially upset. They say it’s even hard to reach the temple gates because the road is jam-packed with vendors and parked cars. Residents are also frustrated that no action has been taken, even though important government offices like the ACB Headquarters, Hyderabad Police Commissionerate, and the Police Command Control Centre are nearby.
On the other hand, some vegetable vendors have said they are willing to move if they are given an alternative space where they can continue their business without creating traffic problems.
