Hyderabad – A group of leaders from Backward Classes (BC) Welfare Associations met with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to push for the approval of the BC quota bill without any changes.
The delegation thanked the Governor for recently forwarding the bill to increase BC reservations to 42% in education and government jobs. They urged him to help secure approval from President Droupadi Murmu without making any amendments to the proposal.
During the meeting at Raj Bhavan, Jajula Srinivas Goud, a key leader of the association, spoke about several important issues. He mentioned the caste census that was already conducted in Telangana, the unanimous passage of the BC Reservation Bill in the state Assembly, and the Central Government’s recent decision to include a nationwide caste census along with the upcoming national population census.
The leaders asked the Governor to exercise his special authority to ensure the 42% quota for BCs becomes law. They also called on him to support removing the current 50% cap on social reservations across the country.
Additionally, they urged the creation of a separate ministry for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) at the national level to better address their needs and welfare.
