Hyderabad: BJP State Chief N. Ramchander Rao criticized the Congress government for allowing Akbaruddin Owaisi‘s college to remain on land in the old town of Salkam Lake. He stressed that the education of 10,000 students there should not be affected.
On Monday, Rao questioned the demolition of homes belonging to poor people in the Musi catchment area in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts. These residents, unaware their homes were on lake boundaries, lost their homes. “They spent their hard-earned money on these homes. Are they not human? Do they not have families? Why are their homes being destroyed? Is there a different set of rules for Akbaruddin’s college and the poor? Is this the justice of the so-called Indira Rajyam?” he asked.
Rao further questioned why the Congress government hasn’t demolished Akbaruddin’s college if they truly support equal justice. “A notice was issued last year with a deadline. Why wasn’t the building taken down after the academic year? Couldn’t the college find a new place? Shouldn’t students have the option to study elsewhere? Is the government allowing Akbaruddin to encroach on land and ignore bills? Are we supposed to protect those who act like terrorists? The BJP demands the college’s immediate demolition or warns of taking its own action.”
Rao also condemned the BRS for attacking media organizations, causing public fear. He urged the Congress-led government to safeguard media freedom. “Silence isn’t an option when media freedom is threatened. If errors occur in reporting, legal measures should be taken, not violence,” he said. Rao added that the BJP is ready to defend media groups under threat. “BJP Yuva Morcha leaders have been directed to ensure immediate security for media organizations facing danger.”
He warned that if the BJP acted similarly, the BRS would target pro-BRS media. However, the BJP respects media freedom. “We’ll address false claims by pro-BRS media legally, not with violence, as we support freedom of speech,” Rao concluded.
