Hyderabad – The Telangana BJP has strongly criticized the state government and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for an incident involving local women during a Miss World event at the historic Ramappa Temple.
On Wednesday, several women were seen washing the feet of Miss World contestants as part of a cultural welcome. The BJP called the act degrading and demanded an apology from the government, especially to the women of Telangana and the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy condemned the event, calling it a shameful display of submission. He said it was unacceptable to make local women perform such acts, especially at a sacred site where Goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma are worshipped.
“This is the land of Rani Rudramma Devi, a symbol of strength and pride for Telangana women,” Reddy said. “The Congress-led government has insulted that legacy by reducing our women to servants in front of foreign guests.”
The BJP leader stressed that Indian tradition teaches us to respect guests under the belief of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’—meaning “the guest is like God.” However, he added, this principle should never come at the cost of local dignity.
Reddy criticized the Telangana Congress government for missing a valuable opportunity. He said the Miss World event could have been used to promote Indian culture and Telangana’s heritage in a respectful way. Instead, the incident has sparked outrage and embarrassment.
The BJP has demanded an official apology and called on the Chief Minister to take responsibility for what they described as a serious insult to Telangana’s women and traditional values.
