Hyderabad:
Dr. Shilpa Reddy, the president of BJP State Mahila Morcha, criticized the State government for not addressing the increasing violence against girls and women. She spoke to the media after Mahila Morcha members protested in front of a private school in Uppal.
The protest was in response to an incident where a Class IX boy allegedly sexually assaulted a Class II student. The school management was accused of trying to cover up the incident instead of taking serious action.
Dr. Reddy expressed frustration that the Mahila Morcha had to organize the protest because the school management wasn’t dealing with the issue properly. She also pointed out that the State government has not implemented essential programs like life skills, self-defense, and personality development sessions. These programs were funded by the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Rs 50 allocated per student in the 2014 budget.
She emphasized the importance of teaching students about safe and unsafe touches to raise awareness against abuse. Dr. Reddy warned the government to take immediate steps to prevent further violence against women and girls. If the government fails to act, the BJP Mahila Morcha plans to escalate their protests with a state-wide agitation.
