Hyderabad: As part of the ‘Friday Dry Day’ initiative, volunteers from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted an awareness session on Friday. They went door-to-door in various neighborhoods, educating residents on how to control mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of seasonal diseases.

The GHMC launched a large-scale awareness program to combat diseases like dengue, malaria, and other illnesses spread by mosquitoes. The aim was to teach households the importance of cleaning water storage containers such as overhead tanks, sumps, flower pots, and refrigerators every week. These areas can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes if not properly maintained.

Volunteers advised families to take steps to stop water from collecting around their homes. They suggested keeping wet and dry garbage separate and handing it over to Swachh Autos instead of throwing it in open spaces. They explained that mosquitoes thrive in dirty conditions, which can lead to serious diseases like dengue, malaria, and viral fever.

Residents were encouraged to observe every Friday as a dry day. This involves emptying, cleaning, and refilling water drums weekly. Additionally, fogging and anti-larval operations were carried out. GHMC officers, in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), are actively working to prevent mosquito-related diseases. Various officers from the entomology, sanitation, and other departments took part in the program. Sanitation staff also sprayed chemicals in different areas to reduce mosquito populations.
