Hyderabad – Leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) raised strong concerns on Wednesday about the Congress government's failure to honor its promises to state employees.
Former employee union leaders V Srinivas Goud, K Swamy Goud, and G Devi Prasad said the current government is ignoring the needs of government workers. Speaking at a press conference, they criticized the administration for claiming that employees make up only two percent of the workforce, calling the statement disrespectful.
They recalled how, under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the BRS government had implemented a 73% salary increase and extended health benefits to groups like home guards. They emphasized that retired employees are now facing serious problems, including health issues, due to a lack of proper support and benefits.
The leaders pointed out that the Congress party had promised to implement the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) within 100 days of coming to power. However, that promise remains unfulfilled. Delays in releasing Dearness Allowance (DA) and other benefits have pushed employees to the edge, they said.
A recent decision by employee groups to protest is not politically driven, the BRS leaders clarified. “Workers are simply demanding what they were promised,” said Srinivas Goud. He criticized the Chief Minister’s “threatening tone” and insisted that the CM must take personal responsibility to fix the situation. “We will support the employees and work with them on a clear action plan to ensure their demands are met,” he added.
Swamy Goud spoke emotionally about the bond among employees, calling them a “family.” He said many felt insulted by the government’s harsh words and lack of action, especially when attacks on workers weren’t taken seriously. “It’s painful to see the government ignore those who helped build the State’s revenue,” he said.
He also questioned the government’s spending priorities. “There’s no money for employee benefits, but funds are being spent on beauty pageants,” he said, criticizing what he called a misplaced focus.
The BRS leaders urged the Congress government to act quickly and respect the contributions of state employees, warning that frustration among workers is growing.
