Hyderabad: The BRS leaders may not join the ‘Rail Roko’ protest suggested by MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha. She is demanding 42% reservations for BCs in local elections set for July 17.
Recently, BRS leaders have avoided party events. For instance, during a protest organized by Telangana Jagruthi president against notices to party chief K Chandrashekar Rao, neither BRS flags nor leaders were present. Only Telangana Jagruthi leaders attended the June 3 protest. As the ‘Rail Roko’ date nears, there’s uncertainty about BRS participation. Senior leaders remain silent on their involvement.
A senior BRS leader suggested the party might skip the ‘Rail Roko’ program. Since it was initiated by one MLC and not the main party leadership, participation is uncertain without clear instructions from above.
Kavitha called for ‘Rail Roko’ to press the Central government to approve bills for 42% BC reservations in local bodies, education, and jobs. She sought support from leaders like BJP’s R Krishnaiah. Kavitha emphasized this protest is a show of BC strength in Telangana. She urged people to delay their travel plans in the state. She criticized the Congress-led state government for planning elections without these reservations, accusing them of shirking responsibility by just forwarding bills to the Centre.
