Hyderabad: The government is preparing to introduce buffer zones around the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) to prevent unplanned urban expansion and encroachments near the upcoming expressway.
Officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Urban Development Department are working together to draft the RRR Master Plan, which will include land-use regulations, zoning restrictions, and environmental safeguards.
Sources indicate that areas along both sides of the RRR will be designated as controlled development zones, where large-scale construction and layout approvals will be carefully regulated. The move aims to protect the highway corridor from haphazard real estate activity, which often follows major infrastructure announcements.
The RRR, planned as a four-lane 330 km expressway, will connect 20 major highways and significantly boost connectivity around Hyderabad. The outer regions are expected to see rapid growth once construction begins, prompting the government to act early with clear urban planning guidelines.
Authorities are also considering the creation of industrial and logistics hubs at select junctions to promote balanced regional growth, while preserving agricultural and green zones elsewhere.
Officials said the draft buffer zone proposal will be reviewed soon before being formally included in the Regional Master Plan for Hyderabad and adjoining districts.
