Hyderabad: On Monday, the State Cabinet will decide on the Godavari-Banakacherla link project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government in the Penna basin. The meeting will explore resolving this issue amicably, potentially through discussions with Andhra Pradesh, while emphasizing existing water-sharing agreements.
The Cabinet will also review the project details provided to the PC Ghose Commission. This commission has requested information about previous cabinet approvals for the Kaleshwaram project under the former BRS government.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy met Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil on June 19. They urged him to stop the Banakacherla project, claiming it was unfair and harmful to Telangana’s interests.
They accused Andhra Pradesh of breaching the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal (GWDT) award and the 2014 AP State Reorganisation Act. They requested the Union Minister to reject the pre-feasibility report of the Godavari-Banakacherla project to ensure fairness.
Afterward, Revanth Reddy expressed his willingness to discuss the Godavari-Banakacherla project with his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, N Chandrababu Naidu.
