The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is working hard to improve sanitation and road safety in the city. Commissioner R V Karnan has instructed officials to quickly respond to any cleanliness complaints from residents. He told zonal and deputy commissioners to focus on making all areas cleaner and maintain high standards.
During a virtual meeting with additional and zonal commissioners, as well as engineering officials, R V Karnan stressed the importance of strict supervision to ensure good hygiene and safety. He warned that any negligence in sanitation would lead to disciplinary action, such as suspension.
Field teams have been told to pay close attention to Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) and transformer points, ensuring they are completely clean and regularly checked. The commissioner ordered the removal of construction debris from roads and demanded that all major roads be free of potholes within four days. He also instructed the engineering department to finish road projects on time and resolve electrical issues promptly to improve public safety.
R V Karnan issued a notice to Hyderabad Integrated MSW Ltd. Ramky for not meeting their waste management contract obligations. They are supposed to clear garbage from all 2,532 GVPs and bin points by 10:30 am each day. However, a review showed that on October 16, only 1,879 GVPs were cleared on time.
The commissioner also noted that out of the 2,000 second storage bins planned for installation across the city, only 850 have been installed. He directed the agency to finish installing the remaining bins immediately. Karnan warned that failing to follow GHMC’s directives will result in heavy penalties and strict actions according to the agreement, emphasizing that effective waste management is crucial.
