Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has taken several steps in response to the recent heavy rain and floods that have caused significant damage in the state. He announced that the compensation for families who lost loved ones in the floods will be increased from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
In addition to this, reports indicate that around four lakh acres of crops have been damaged. The Chief Minister has ordered the Agriculture Department to conduct a field survey to assess the extent of the crop loss. He also increased the compensation for the loss of milch cattle from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, and for goats and sheep from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.
Preliminary estimates suggest that 1.5 lakh acres of crops have already been affected. The Chief Minister has directed officials to disburse compensation to the flood-affected farmers as quickly as possible, just as it was done in Kamareddy. The government is also making arrangements for Central teams to visit and assess the damage.
For those who have lost their homes, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to allocate Indiramma houses. He also asked the Chief Secretary to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting his visit to the flood-affected areas to assess the damage to infrastructure such as railway lines, roads, and electricity poles.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of safety during this period. He ordered officials to ensure that no untoward incidents occur in Hyderabad and other municipal areas. He also advised officials to remain vigilant in maintaining the supply of electricity and water, managing traffic, and ensuring proper sanitation.
To aid those in low-lying areas, the Chief Minister directed civic authorities to move residents to relief camps. Additionally, he instructed officials to identify daily laborers who may be staying home due to the heavy rain and to distribute essential supplies like rice and pulses to them.
Several ministers, advisers, and senior officials were present during the meeting where these decisions were made.
