Hyderabad is facing a water shortage as summer begins, with groundwater levels dropping and reservoirs drying up. Chief Minister ARevanth Reddy has instructed officials to ensure that drinking water is supplied in all Municipalities and Municipal Corporations. If needed, water should be delivered through tankers within 12 hours of booking.

The government has provided the necessary power to meet the increasing demand, and officials have been told to prevent power cuts across the state. The Chief Minister praised the DISCOMS for supplying electricity without cuts in March when demand reached an all-time high. Compared to last year, there has been a significant increase in electricity supply to match the demand.

The state’s average power load is 9,712 MW, with peak demand reaching 14,000 to 15,000 megawatts in the past two weeks. This high demand is expected to continue until the second week of April. Officials have been instructed to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, prevent crops from drying up, and support students preparing for exams.

Local water resources should be utilized for drinking water needs from April to June, including bore wells and wells. A Special Officer will be appointed at the district level to address drinking water issues, with a village-wise action plan being developed. State officials will conduct field visits to monitor water supply regularly and provide water tanks to overcome shortages in all Municipalities and Municipal Corporations.
