Nagar Kurnool: Collector Badavath Santosh has instructed officials to educate the public about the importance of keeping their surroundings clean to prevent mosquitoes. He emphasized the need for cleanliness as part of the ‘Every Friday Dry Day’ initiative.

As part of this program, Collector Santosh visited the 7th Ward, Uyyalawada in Nagarkurnool town. He reviewed the ongoing Dry Day program and joined municipal staff, Anganwadi, and ASHA workers who were going door-to-door to create awareness about cleanliness and mosquito prevention.

During his visit, the Collector inspected the surroundings of several houses. He inquired if ASHA workers and municipal staff were providing awareness to the residents. He explained that discarded items like plastic containers, bottles, coconut shells, old pots, and tires can cause rainwater to stagnate, which becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes that cause diseases like dengue and malaria lay their larvae in stagnant clean water. These diseases can be costly and sometimes life-threatening. To prevent this, the Collector emphasized conducting Dry Day every Friday. He advised changing water in household pots every two days and avoiding long-term water storage.

Collector Santosh also directed officials to remove stones blocking canals to prevent water stagnation. He stressed the importance of daily cleaning of roads and canals and timely garbage disposal. He suggested using oil balls in drainage and canals to control mosquito breeding.

By keeping surroundings clean, people can protect themselves from seasonal diseases. The government has mandated the systematic observance of Dry Day every Friday to prevent the spread of dengue and promote cleanliness. A special program called Cleanliness and Greenness will start next Monday.

The district administration, along with Nagarkurnool Municipal Commissioner Naresh Babu, Municipal Chairperson Kalpana, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and municipal staff, will work together to ensure the success of ‘Friday Dry Day’ and maintain safe sanitation practices.
