Hyderabad / Nalgonda:
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Congress government is making major progress in fixing long-standing issues with Krishna River water sharing. He said the government is taking strong steps to support farmers in South Telangana by speeding up irrigation projects.
At a review meeting in Miryalguda, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II, led by Justice Brijesh Kumar, has agreed to reopen the case on how 811 TMCFT of Krishna water is divided among the states. He called this a major win.
He criticized the former BRS government for doing nothing while Andhra Pradesh expanded the Pothireddypadu head regulator and started the Rayalaseema Lift Scheme. He said their silence caused harm to Telangana’s water rights.
Uttam added that the current government is now installing telemetry systems at all major Krishna basin projects. These devices will provide real-time data on water flow, making the system more transparent and accountable.
He also gave updates on local irrigation projects in the Miryalaguda constituency.
– The Keshavpuram Lift Irrigation Scheme, which will irrigate 3,032 acres, is already 60–70% complete. Motors have been ordered, and the project should be finished by June.
– The Dumma Pothulagandi–Chamala Tanda project is designed to serve 12,239 acres. Work has started, including groundwork and silt removal.
– The Bothalapalem–Wadapally lift scheme, which will benefit 8,610 acres, is 10% complete and is expected to be done by mid-2025.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government is committed to ensuring that every drop of Krishna River water is used fairly and efficiently to support the people of Telangana, especially its farmers.
