Hyderabad: Congress party leaders and workers held a rally in Hyderabad on Wednesday to protest the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. The march started from the MLA quarters and ended at the BSNL office in Saifabad.
The protestors were led by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud. They carried black flags and placards while shouting slogans against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Goud said the charges were politically motivated and meant to target the Congress leadership. He added that the party would not be scared by such actions.
Mahesh Goud also criticized the ED and the CBI, saying they were acting like tools of the ruling BJP. He claimed that since 2014, nearly 95 percent of ED cases have been filed against opposition leaders. He reminded people that the Nehru-Gandhi family has made many sacrifices for the country and warned that citizens will not stay silent if such actions continue.
Goud questioned why the National Herald case was being treated as money laundering. He explained that the Congress party had funded the newspaper, and the money involved came from party members as loans—not from outside investors. He called the case a clear example of political revenge because the BJP is frustrated by the growing support for the Congress party.
He also recalled that India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had spent nine years in jail during the freedom struggle. He said that the nation holds the Nehru-Gandhi family in high regard, and the Congress party will continue its fight against what he called “fascist forces” until they are defeated.
The Congress party has announced a large protest at the ED office in Basheerbagh on Thursday as part of their ongoing demonstrations.
