Warangal: CPI State Assistant Secretary Takkalapally Srinivas Rao criticized the recent awards given to actor Allu Arjun and the movie Razakar, saying they fail to meet public expectations. During a meeting in Hanumakonda on Friday, he expressed dissatisfaction with the jury’s decision to award the film as the ‘Best Heritage Film.’
Rao argued that the story of Razakar strays from the truth. It disrespects the martyrs of the Telangana Peasant Armed Struggle who fought against landlords for land, food, and freedom. The film wrongly portrays this struggle as a conflict between Hindus and Muslims.
He highlighted the Communists-led armed struggle that liberated 3,000 villages from the Nizam’s rule, resulting in the distribution of 10 lakh acres to farmers and the poor.
Rao also questioned the Best Actor award to Allu Arjun for his role as a red sander smuggler in the film Pushpa, asking what message it sends to the youth. He criticized the award for the film Kalki, which he said promotes superstitions.
Rao urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to withdraw the contested awards.
Prominent leaders like Mothe Linga Reddy, Karre Bikshapathi, Nedunuri Jyothy, Siraboina Karnakar, and Manda Sadalaxmi attended the meeting.
