Adilabad, Telangana – A group of journalists met with District Collector Rajarshi Shah and Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan on Monday to raise concerns over what they described as a growing number of false legal cases filed against media professionals.
The delegation, representing Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ H 143), was led by District President Beta Ramesh. He said that several reporters in areas like Gudihathnoor and Ichoda have recently been booked without proper inquiry.
“These cases hurt the spirit of journalism. Reporters are being blamed unfairly just for doing their job,” said Ramesh. He requested that the authorities take immediate action to stop this trend.
In response, SP Akhil Mahajan promised that cases filed against reporters covering news in Gudihathnoor would soon be withdrawn. He also assured that any future complaints against journalists would first be reviewed by the District Accreditation Committee, headed by the Collector.
Mahajan encouraged the press to continue helping the police curb anti-social behavior, but also reminded them to follow ethical journalism practices. He stressed the importance of staying away from activities that could damage the credibility of the profession.
The delegation included Union General Secretary Lakshmipuram Raju, Vice President Anwar, and journalists from Adilabad, Ichoda, and Gudihathnoor. They hope this meeting marks the beginning of better coordination between the media and district officials.
